    Brian W. O’Connor, MD, is a graduate of Boston College and Georgetown University. 

    Dr. O’Connor began practicing medicine in private practice in 1991. He began his career in obstetrics and gynecology and spent 20 years caring for patients in Melrose, MA. Dr. O’Connor began to explore addiction medicine in 2005, due to having an adult child that was struggling with substance use disorder. Additionally, Dr. O’Connor began to see a surge of pregnant women afflicted with substance use disorder presenting to his office unable to access the proper treatment.

    Dr. O’Connor initially treated only pregnant patients. In conjunction with the growing opioid epidemic, Dr. O’Connor founded his addiction medicine practice, Middlesex Recovery, in June of 2010. Dr. O’Connor now specializes in the care of opioid dependence. Dr. O’Connor’s interests also include alcohol misuse disorders, underserved populations, and the corrections community.

    Dr. O’Connor is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and addiction medicine.

    Chris G. Carter, MPAS, PA-C is an Addiction Specialist that is a licensed Board Certified Physician Assistant in MA and NH who specializes in Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry. He holds a Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and treats both Opioid and Alcohol dependencies. 

    Chris is located at our clinic primarily in Salem, NH, and is available to see new patients in MA as needed. He brings much experience of over 20 years and exclusively practices Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opiate Use Disorder, including Suboxone® and Sublocade®. Additionally, he is specialized in Alcohol Use Disorder utilizing Vivitrol®. He got his start in Family Medicine and discovered through an opportunity presented in an inpatient Psychiatry setting that it helped him prepare for his current role today. He believes that he has found his niche and that it has been the most fulfilling patient-centered work that he has done to date. His ultimate goal is to bring out the best in others by assisting our patients with combatting their addiction process and to make them a better person, be more productive in life, enjoy their families, and most importantly, giving them the insight to regain control of their life. 

    When Chris isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children exploring new seasonal appropriate activities. His proudest accomplishments are his family and his ability to give others hope to seek freedom from Substance Use Disorder (SUD).

    Fariba Miryousefi, MD, has been a Physician for over 15 years and holds Board Certifications in both Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Conditions that Fariba helps treat include Opioid Dependence, Alcohol Dependence, and Nicotine Dependence. She has practiced in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

    Dr. Miryousefi got her start by completing her medical training at Iran University of Medical Sciences, one of the Ivy League medical schools in Tehran/Iran in 1987. She believes that her purpose in life is to lessen the sufferings of humankind and her mission is to use her skills to do exactly that.

    Dr. Miryousefi is also a trained artist, loves to read, and every few years embarks on a new project to challenge herself in new ways than before.

    Lynn H. Galen, MD, is a Staff Physician at our Norton and Woburn clinics. Dr. Galen has 25+ years of experience as an OBGYN and 10+ in the field of Addiction Medicine. At Middlesex, she treats both conditions of alcohol and opioid dependencies. Dr. Galen holds a board certification in Addiction Medicine as well as Obstetrics & Gynecology.

    Dr. Galen got her start at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center after receiving her Doctorate degree and went on to work in both hospital and outpatient settings.

    Dr. Galen holds a strong belief that all patients, regardless of condition, race, age, and ethnicity should be treated fairly and with respect.

    Mumuni Daodu is a certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) with Middlesex Recovery Norton. His credentials include: ACLS, SAM, and a Buprenorphine Certification. His 5+ years of experience have contributed to his specialty in Opioid Dependence Management. He treats both conditions of opioid and alcohol dependencies in an outpatient setting exclusively. 

    Mumuni began his career in the UMass Medical Center ICU, RI Hospital Neurological Care Unit and also with South Coast Health General Surgery. 

    It is Mumuni’s mission to assist clients in achieving physical, mental, and social wellbeing. He enjoys rooting for his favorite team as an avid New England Patriots fan.

    Tarajean “Tara” Lewis, MSN, RN, CNP, WHNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is an experienced Nurse Practitioner that holds many certifications and licenses such as: RN license in MA since 2001, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (WHNP-BC) with National Certification Corporation (NCC) since 2005, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (PMHNP-BC) with American Nurses Credentialing Center since 2021, and a DATA Waived Buprenorphine Prescriber since 2018. 

    Tara has spent 20 years a Registered Nurse (RN), 16 years as a Nurse Practitioner (NP), and a total of 3 years in Addiction Medicine. She specializes in Women’s Health, Psychiatry Mental-Health and Addiction Medicine. Her vast experience includes treating conditions such as opioid and alcohol dependencies in an outpatient office setting.

    Tara got her start in 2001 when she became an RN, and then became a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) in 2005. She started working at Middlesex Recovery in November 2018 after becoming a DATA Waived Buprenorphine Prescriber in May of 2018. She has since gone on to graduate from Regis College with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification in Spring 2021.

    It is Tara’s mission to treat all patients as human beings. She believes the care of the whole patient is important, not just the treatment of a diagnosis. She enjoys during her time off spending time with her family, reading mystery and detective books, being active and joining her family on hikes.

    Walter Spencer Wightman, MD, is a Physician at our Woburn and Chelmsford clinics with over 35 years of experience. His credentials include ABFM Certification and ASAM/ABPM Certification. Dr. Wightman treats both conditions of alcohol and opioid dependencies in a private office setting.

    Dr. Wightman began in the University of Connecticut Student Health Service and then went on to various primary care and urgent care settings. 

    It is Dr. Wightman’s mission to work for the greater good and he never wants to stop learning. He is also on track to creating what may be the world’s largest personal music playlist and he admits to being a voracious reader.

    Yvonne Smikle, MD, is an ABFM certified and licensed Physician at Middlesex Recovery Woburn and Gloucester. She specializes in Family Medicine and has been practicing for 15+ years. Having worked in an outpatient setting for majority of her career, she treats conditions such as opioid and alcohol dependence with expertise.

    Dr. Smikle began at a private Family Medicine group practice in Swampscott, MA, then shortly after transitioned to work with Willow Medical in Lynn, MA. She began Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment at Willow for several years. After that, she worked with Lynn Community Health Center for 2 years continuing primary care and Substance Use Disorder treatment. She left primary care for about one year working solely with Middlesex Recovery Woburn. In 2013, she went back to working in primary care part-time with Hallmark Health for 5 years. She officially left there in 2018 and has been working solely with Middlesex ever since.

    Dr. Smikle’s goal is to offer compassionate care to persons with substance use disorders and always keeps in mind that every patient is a person first. Her hobbies include theatre, gardening, book club and doing something creative to relax.

    Elisabete Santo Valente, FNP-BC, CARN-AP, is a Nurse Practitioner at our treatment center in Chelmsford, MA. With over 16 years of healthcare experience, Elisabete currently specializes in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid, tobacco and alcohol use disorders.

    Elisabete earned a BS in Journalism in 2002, a BS in Nursing in 2008 and an MS in Nursing in 2012. She became a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 2012 through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Additionally, Elisabete has been a DATA Waived Buprenorphine prescriber since 2017; a Diplomat of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine since 2020, and as of June 2024, is a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse Advanced Practice.


    Elisabete began her career at a community family health center and has worked in both inpatient detox and outpatient substance use disorder (SUD) settings. Elisabete is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care to underserved populations, including culturally diverse groups and individuals with SUD and co-occurring disorders.

    In her free time, Elisabete enjoys running, hiking, reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
